Misty Bennett is an active artist creating work that crosses the boundaries between drawing and painting. She has had 2 solo exhibitions and participated in over 25 invitational and juried shows. Her work has appeared in regional exhibitions, including the Saltline Biennial at the Mobile Museum of Art, the State Arts Council Gallery in Montgomery, and at the Red Clay Survey at the Hunstville Museum of Art. In addition she has participated in a number of exhibitions on the national level, including a solo exhibition at Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC, and a national juried exhibition at Ceres Gallery in New York. She is currently represented by Sandler Hudson Gallery in Atlanta, GA. Her work is part of the President’s Collection at The University of Georgia, and is permanently displayed in the New College building on campus. It is also on display in the College of Fine Arts building on the University of Montevallo campus as well as the Carmichael Library and the President’s House, Flowerhill. She has also completed three artist’s residencies at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences, in 2003 and 2004, and 2007.
At the University of Montevallo, Bennett has received 3 Faculty Research grants for the production of new work in drawing and painting in 2004 and 2005, and 2008. She was also granted a 2002 Purchase Award during her participation in the MFA Exhibition at the Georgia Museum of Art, in Athens, GA.
Misty Bennett’s work has been reviewed by Alexandra Mack of the Charleston City Paper, Catherine Fox of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and Felicia Feaster of Creative Loafing Atlanta. It has appeared in the publication Studio Visit Magazine and will be one of 40 artists featured in the 2010 New American Paintings, Southeastern Edition, to be released later this year.
